Bolsena Lake
The largest lake of volcanic origin in Europe and the fifth largest lake in Italy.
It is the largest lake of volcanic origin in Europe and the fifth largest lake in Italy. It is entirely located in the area of Alta Tuscia, one of the most beautiful areas of Lazio. It boasts a nearly completely uncontaminated natural environment and is one of the few great Italian lakes to be completely bathing. The cleanliness of its waters (a statement by fishermen tells that this is the “lake that drinks!”) Has ensured an extraordinary development of animal and plant species, which enabled it in 2005 to become SIC (site of Community interest).
The shores of the lake are generally low and sandy. Along the coasts alternate calm and quiet shores, ideal for relaxing, swimming and fishing, fields and gardens, covered with olive trees, vineyards and vegetables.
The lake is mainly fueled by underground springs and rainwater, has a single emissary, the River Marta, which begins its journey to the homonymous city to lead to the Tyrrhenian Sea near Tarquinia.
In addition to the unique natural aspect of this lake, it must not be forgotten that its historical settlements are from the remote Villanoviana to our day, passing through the Etruscans, the Romans, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance …
The historic places to visit are therefore abundant interesting a bit in all the resorts blooming around the lake: Bolsena, Montefiascone, Marta, Capodimonte. Various archaeological sites of considerable interest also cover the territory.

In addition to the lake, the sea of the Tyrrhenian coast is reachable in 40 minutes by car and just over reaches the splendid coast of Argentario in the Tuscan Maremma, in the Nature Reserve of the Parco dell’Uccellina, with beautiful beaches and rocky walls ideal also for free climbing.
Beyond the sea, we recommend visiting the fascinating Tarot Park near Capalbio.
Finally, within 30 miles there are beautiful natural reserves to discover with walks like the Lamone Reserve and the Monterufen Reserve.

FROM THE ETRUSCANS TO THE RENAISSANCE (history and culture)
We invite you to visit the Etruscan city of Tuscania, the necropolis of Tarquinia, declared UNESCO Heritage Site, the Archaeological Park of Vulci; or you can undertake a Renaissance journey between the villas and the Renaissance palaces of the Tuscia Viterbese, including Bomarzo’s Monster Park, Palazzo Farnese di Caprarola, Villa Lante di Bagnaia.
SPORT (various activities)
In this area it is possible to make several bicycle tours of various difficulties and duration around the territory and Lake Bolsena; itinerant trekking and walks along a stretch of the street of the ancient Via Francigena. Furthermore, on Lake Bolsena it is possible to practice sailing, canoeing and wind surfing.

Tuscia offers a calendar of festivals throughout the year. In particular, from May to September there is an extensive calendar of events to learn about and experience local traditions and culture.
Do not miss Montefiascone is the Wine Fair that takes place every year in the first two weeks of August.
The ideal occasion to taste the famous local wine Est! Est! Est !!!, retrace the past between history and legend with the historical procession and a rich calendar of celebrations.
A JUMP INTO TOWN (Montefiascone)
In Montefiascone the small railway station in loc. Zepponami is on the route in connection with Rome, Orvieto and Florence to make a leap into the city in full freedom. The station is only 6 km from the farm. From Montefiascone there are daily connections to Rome Termini Station in an hour and a half by train, or there are connections to Rome by bus.
FRANCIGENA WAY TREKKING
The Viterbo’s itinerary of Way Francigena includes a beautiful stretch between Siena and Rome, crossing suggestive villages and uncontaminated territories. It is a path immersed for much of the nature that traces the ancient Roman Via Cassia. In the medieval period it became a pilgrimage stretch from Canterbury to Rome. Today it is still possible to retrace the ancient route, far more than a pilgrim route, ideal for hikers and nature lovers. In the stretch from Montefiascone to Viterbo you can find the original basaltato romano and through vineyards and gardens you will come to the thermal springs of Bagnaccio near Viterbo, ideal place for a break and to regenerate mind and body.
